Regardless of how many impressive performances they deliver, female actors are still largely judged by their appearance and style. Even if they put in great effort, or embrace their natural looks, they often end up being subjected to endless scrutiny. Despite being one of South cinema’s most successful stars, Nayanthara too continues to face such judgements, as if her identity is tied solely to her looks. Recently, she clarified emphatically that she has never had cosmetic or plastic surgery to enhance or restore her appearance.

Mentioning that she spends the most time on her eyebrows when preparing for events and red carpets, Nayanthara expressed her deep fondness for them. “I take the time to perfect it because it’s the real game-changer. I have had different brow phases over the years. Maybe that’s why people think my face is changing and I keep looking different. Maybe, that’s why a lot of people think I have done something to my face. But that’s not true. On record… not true,” she said during a chat with Hauterrfly.

The Jawan star added, “Not that it’s wrong; but for me, it has just been diet. So, there’s been a lot of weight fluctuation and my cheeks go in and out. You can pinch me, burn me, you’ll know there’s no plastic in here.” Stating that her makeover as Kadhambari in the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) is her favourite, Nayanthara said, “She’s fun, unique and has a style of her own. We wanted to break the image of what a physically challenged person is usually portrayed like. And I love the fact that we could make her look fun.”

The actor also highlighted the importance of eating local, seasonal foods and staying hydrated, saying, “They’re best for your health, skin and hair.” Nayanthara also shared her lip care routine, explaining that she first uses foundation to even out her lips, applies a light dusting of powder and then overlines them with a lip liner. “I never swipe my lipstick; I usually dab it for more natural, plump and even look.” She also stated that the idea behind floating her own skincare brand, 9skin, was to provide people with products that work for everyone, irrespective of their skin texture.

When asked about a fashion trend she dislikes, Nayanthara pointed to the “uncomfortable red carpet dresses with long trails.” “When I see people wearing these dresses, I feel uncomfortable. They sometimes look like they will trip anytime and I freak out for them,” she added.

Nayanthara was last seen in the Tamil film Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food and is now gearing up for the release of Test, wherein she shares the screen with R Madhavan, Siddharth and Meera Jasmine.
