Chandramukhi makers say they didn’t send a legal notice to Nayanthara for using clips in Netflix documentary

Previously, actor Dhanush had slapped the South actress with a legal suit demanding Rs 10 crore for using a BTS clip from the 2014 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.

Nayanthara’s Netflix documentary made headlines before and after its release when Dhanush slapped the actress and her husband Vignesh Shivan with legal notice, accusing them of using clips from the 2014 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without his permission. It became quite big when the actress in turn released a three-page long statement, accusing him of holding a grudge against the couple. Now, reports said that after nearly two months, the actress has been slapped with yet another legal notice. This time from the makers of Chandramuki, according to Gulte.

However, the film’s makers Sivaji Productions have denied sending the notice and said Nayanthara had obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for this footage. They said they have no objections to the use of footage from Chandramukhi in the Netflix documentary as Rowdy Pictures, owned by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, had received permission to use, reproduce, distribute, and sub-license the footage exclusively for the documentary.

The certificate further stated, “We confirm that Rowdy Pictures has been granted permission to use, reproduce, distribute, and/or sub-license the aforementioned video footage exclusively for use in the Netflix series titled Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.”
It read, “We further declare that we shall hold Rowdy Pictures (along with affiliates, licensees/sub-licensees, and assigns) harmless from any claims and/or disputes arising out of the use of the video footage as authorized under the certificate/letter.”

The actress, who marked her acting debut in 2003 with the Malayalam film Manassinakkare, went on to make Vismayathumbathu, and Natturajavu. In 2005, she made her first Tamil film Ayya, followed by Chandramukhi. The film starred actors Rajinikanth and Jyotika. As the documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, explores the actor’s career and love life, it included clips from several of her films from the beginning to her comeback to the latest Jawan.

Previously, after sharing a statement against Dhanush, the actress had shared another list thanking the people who supported her and cleared NOCs to use clips from their movies. The list along with names like Shah Rukh Khan, and Chiranjeevi, also included the name of her Chandramukhi producer Ramkumar Ganesan, who produced the film under his banner Sivaji Productions. The actress is yet to react to the legal notice.

In November last year, Dhanush sent a legal notice to the actress soon after she released the trailer of her documentary. The legal notice demanded Rs 10 crore for using a three-second BTS clip of the actress and her husband Vignesh Shivan.

Nayanthara slammed the actor for his legal notice and wrote in her statement, “I am in receipt of your legal notice and we shall respond to it befittingly through lawful means. Your refusal to give NOC for use of elements of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan for our Netflix documentary might be justified by you to the courts from copyright angle but I wish to remind you that there is a moral side to it, which has to be defended in the court of God.”
