Irshad Kamil is a well-known lyricist and playwright, who has worked on several Bollywood songs and quite a few scripts. One of his plays, Bolti Deewarein, was recently published in Hindi by Vani Prakashan. The play was originally presented on the foundation day of the publication in Delhi. On the occasion of the book launch, veteran lyricist Gulzar, Hindi critic and poet Ashok Vajpay and Jnanpith awardee Hindi poet Kedar Nath Singh were present to unveil the book and speak about Kamil’s work. In the preface of the play, Kamil has expressed that this play is an organic outcome and reaction of penning innumerous romantic numbers for films. Bolti Deewarein talks about love and relationships and tries to understand the emotion of love in the contemporary times. Earlier, the play has been successfully staged six times in Delhi by repertory actors from the Shri Ram Centre and was well-received by the audience. Post the successful stint, the play was taken to Chandigarh and was presented by the Sangeet Natak Academy, where Kamil himself read the play to a full house at the Tagore Theatre. The book is now available for retail at all major bookstores.
