He arrived on stage manning a tank as Jee karda, the song from his next, Badlapur, played in the background. Dressed in combat clothes, he jumped off the tank, but landed incorrectly, injuring his foot. Yet, without flinching, Varun Dhawan went on to deliver a lively performance, showing that he was in pain only once he stopped for a breather, before his next act. His reward was a resounding applause by the audience and a word of praise by Deepika Padukone who told him how his mother, who was in the audience, was proud of him. The evening, however, belonged to the winners of quality cinema for 2014. It was heart-warming to see the entire team of Queen in attendance to receive the Best Film Award. The film’s director, Vikas Bahl, took home the Best Director trophy. On a similar note, the entire crew of Manjunath came on stage to receive the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for making a courageous film on the slain whistle blower, Manjunath Shanmugam. For Happy New Year, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika received the Best Actor in Popular category awards for Male and Female respectively.
To supplement the award distribution were some entertaining acts by the younger stars. Sidharth Malhotra played host, while Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Malaika Arora Khan entertained the audience. Shah Rukh Khan not only grooved but also hosted a segment that the audience loved.
