Recently, several trade tracking platforms have released their Return on Investment (ROI) reports for Hindi films that hit theatres last year. Unsurprisingly, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has emerged as the most profitable Hindi film of the year. The top 10 list is followed by surprise hits such as Saiyaara, Chhaava, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, and Raid 2, among others.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Dhurandhar, which was reportedly made on a combined budget of Rs 475 crore for both parts, has earned Rs 1,287 crore within 47 days and is expected to wrap up its theatrical run at around Rs 1,320 crore. After accounting for production costs, distributor shares, and other expenses, the film has generated an estimated profit of nearly Rs 350 crore. With its sequel scheduled for release on March 19, the franchise’s overall profitability is expected to rise further.
The second spot is taken by Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara, which turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of the year. Initially expected to earn under Rs 100 crore, the film delivered an ROI of over 300 percent. Made on a modest budget of Rs 60 crore, Saiyaara collected Rs 579.23 crore at the box office and earned an additional Rs 45 crore through non-theatrical rights. The makers reportedly walked away with profits of nearly Rs 250 crore.
