Veteran filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan, known for Yodha, Gandharvam, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, passes away

Legendary filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan has passed away. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai, Asianet News reported. The eldest son of the esteemed photographer and cinematographer Sivan, Sangeeth was born in 1959. He completed his studies at MG College and Mar Ivanios College before he started working with his father, initially on documentaries.

He entered the mainstream film industry by co-producing Aditya Bhattacharya’s actioner Raakh, starring Aamir Khan, Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur in key roles. He wrote and directed the crime film Vyooham (1990), starring Raghuvaran and Sukumaran.

He rose to massive fame by helming blockbuster Mohanlal-starrers such as Yodha (1992), Gandharvam (1993) and Nirnayam (1995). Besides Malayalam, Sangeeth has also directed films in Hindi, such as the Sunny Deol-starrer Zor (1998), Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne (2003), Kyaa Kool Hai Hum (2005), Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), Ek: The Power of One (2009), Click (2010) and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (2013), featuring Dharmendra and sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol in key roles. His last directorial venture was the psychological thriller TV series Bhram, starring Kalki Koechlin and Bhumika Chawla in the lead roles.

Sangeeth was the elder sibling of the National Award-winning cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan and renowned filmmaker Sanjeev Sivan. He is survived by his wife, Jayashree, and children, Sajana and Shanthanu, reported Asianet News.
