Acting on specific intelligence, a special EOU team arrested Sanjay Kumar Prabhat, who is from Shekhopur Bazar in Sheikhpura district, from Gola Road in Patna on Monday.
A day ahead of the Driver Constable Recruitment Examination in Bihar, police said the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has arrested a man accused of being involved in multiple question paper leak rackets.
A senior official on Tuesday said the EOU is conducting a “special intelligence-driven operation” against organised examination gangs active in Bihar in view of the Driver Constable Recruitment Examination to be held on Wednesday by the Central Selection Council (Constable Recruitment), and the Enforcement Sub-Inspector Examination of the Transport Department scheduled for December 14.
Acting on specific intelligence, a special EOU team arrested Sanjay Kumar Prabhat, who is from Shekhopur Bazar in Sheikhpura district, from Gola Road in Patna on Monday. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody on December 9. Police described him as a “notorious examination mafia” and an “active member” of the Sanjeev Mukhia gang.
The officer said Prabhat was wanted in another paper leak case from 2024. He also has a criminal history linked to earlier leaks, including the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TSEAMCET) 2016, which is being probed by the Telangana CID, and the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) 2016 case registered at Ramnagar police station in Nainital’s Haldwani in Uttarakhand.
During interrogation, Prabhat allegedly admitted to earning large sums by leaking question papers of various competitive examinations. According to the officer, he charged “around Rs 1 lakh from each candidate” for providing access to leaked papers of the BPSC TRE-3 exam. Investigators also found that he had begun collecting admit cards and documents from candidates for upcoming examinations while assuring them of “setting” arrangements.
The EOU said verification of the money trail and other disclosures made during questioning is underway, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
