Jayaram says he deliberately took a break from Malayalam film industry: ‘I have great hope for Abraham Ozler’
Jayaram, who is currently working on various Telugu and Tamil projects, will make a comeback in Malayalam with Midhun Manuel Thomas's Abraham Ozler.

Despite facing a lack of success on his home turf, Malayalam actor Jayaram continues to be cherished in other regional film industries. His recent roles in highly successful non-Malayalam movies such as Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020), Putham Pudhu Kaalai (2020), Dhamaka (2022), and the Ponniyin Selvan franchise underline Jayaram’s appeal beyond Mollywood.
The actor recently made a revelation stating that he purposefully took a break of one-and-a-half years from the Malayalam film industry, with the intention of patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity to stage his comeback. Mentioning that the wait was totally worth it, Jayaram stated that he was now looking forward to Midhun Manuel Thomas’s Abraham Ozler.
Speaking at an event in Palakkad, Jayaram said, “Thanks for all the love which helped me work in numerous films over the past 35 years. I have also had the fortune to act in other languages. I believe that these opportunities should come looking for you and that you can’t pursue them on your own. Currently, I am working on several Telugu films. Tomorrow morning, I have a shoot with superstar Mahesh Babu. Additionally, there is a film with Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi’s son, directed by Shankar. I am also involved in a project with Vijay Deverakonda. Furthermore, there is a Kannada film called Ghost starring Shivrajkumar, which will soon be released. My last Tamil film was Ponniyin Selvan. It was an honour to work with a legend like Mani Ratnam on an epic film that delves into the history of Tamil.”
“I took a break from Malayalam cinema for a year, patiently waiting for a good project to come my way. That wait was not in vain. The film I am currently working on, Abraham Ozler, is directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, known for his work in Anjaam Pathiraa. I have great hope for this film, which is currently in production. I want to express my gratitude to all of you for the immense love and concern you have shown me. Everywhere I go, mothers inquire about my well-being. I am truly grateful,” Jayaram added.
The last Malayalam film to feature Jayaram was Sathyan Anthikad’s Makal (2022), in which the actor appeared alongside Meera Jasmine and Naslen K Gafoor.
