Director Christopher Nolan’s recently released biographical thriller Oppenheimer is making waves in the film world, garnering rave reviews from both critics and viewers. The film depicts the life of J Robert Oppenheimer who led the Manhattan Project, the American effort in the 1940s that resulted in the creation of the world’s first atomic bombs, which were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Nolan’s Oppenheimer has already emerged as a box-office success, having earned a remarkable $174 million worldwide in just three days.

Nevertheless, the movie has also garnered negative reviews from audiences, with some expressing their dissatisfaction and criticism. Samuel Harris Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, stands out as one of the prominent figures who did not find favour with the Nolan film.

Sharing his dissatisfaction, Sam Altman took to Twitter and stated that he had hoped Nolan’s Oppenheimer would serve as an inspiration for young minds to pursue physics. However, the film failed to meet his expectations in this regard. “I was hoping that the Oppenheimer movie would inspire a generation of kids to be physicists but it really missed the mark on that. Let’s get that movie made! (I think The Social Network managed to do this for startup founders.)”

Echoing a similar sentiment, Twitter CTO Elon Musk responded to Altman’s tweet with a succinct “Indeed”. On Sunday, Musk shared a tweet featuring a picture of someone in a crowded theatre, scrolling through TikTok on their phone while watching Oppenheimer. The caption on the image reads, “This Oppenheimer movie is way too long.”

Meanwhile, a scene in Oppenheimer, in which the titular character appears to have sex as he reads out verses from an ancient Sanskrit scripture, has irked a section of social media users, who claimed the lines are from the Bhagavad Gita and demanded the removal of the sequence from Christopher Nolan’s latest film.

Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur is upset with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for clearing objectionable scenes in Christopher Nolan’s latest film Oppenheimer, and has asked the officials to remove them from screenings of the movie in Indian theatres, The Indian Express has learnt.

In her review of the film, The Indian Express’ Shalini Langer wrote: “Christopher Nolan’s gaze is directed at the inner universe of J Robert Oppenheimer who would be the father of the atom bomb.”
