Breaking Bad creator’s new show Pluribus is about keeping the protagonist happy, but she isn’t interested. Watch trailer
Apple TV and Sony are joining forces with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan for a new drama series titled Pluribus.
A still from the trailer of Pluribus. (Photo: YouTube/Apple TV)No one could have guessed Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan would make a show about perpetual happiness. Gilligan has come up with a new drama series titled Pluribus and it seems that the entire population of this make-believe world just wants to make the protagonist Carol happy. However their Will Smith-like pursuit of happiness isn’t for unselfish reasons, and that is why Carol isn’t buying into the whole scheme.
The trailer opens with Carol opening the door of a rather lavish home and being presented with a gourmet breakfast. Instead of reveling in joy, she picks up the dish and disposes the whole thing into the trash. This is where you start feeling that something is incredibly off about this world that Gilligan has built. Everything from the stores, to the roads, to the gas station are spotless and functional, but they are deserted for the most part.

Everyone knows who Carol is and can’t help but greet her excitedly every time they see her. We see Ana come up to Carol and say, “We just want you to be happy,” and it seems apparent that the only person in this world who isn’t jumping up and down with the joy is Carol, and she can’t bear it. At one point, we also see a press conference being aired from what looks like the White House, and we see the President say, “Rest assured Carol, we will figure out what is different about you, so you can join us.”
Carol spends the entirety of the trailer figuring out how to get the world to go back to normal and the character of Manusos might be able to help her in this mission. Rather than the usual dystopian future that is shown in movies and shows, Pluribus looks to be an unique take on the human psyche and society in general. Carol driver her tiny scooter through streets torn by conflict, as the world behind her goes mad with happiness.
Created by Vince Gilligan, the cast of the show includes Rhea Seehorn, Carlos Manuel-Vesga, Miriam Shor, McKenzie Scott, Paris Maese, Monae and Monique Lott.
