Movie review: School Days

A school film usually has the same ingredients. A bunch of school kids, some good, some bad,the rest indifferent. A bunch of teachers, ditto. And situations which lead to flashpoints and resolutions.

Cast: Pankaj Sharma,Rajiv Sethi

Director: Dilip Sood

A school film usually has the same ingredients. A bunch of school kids, some good, some bad,the rest indifferent. A bunch of teachers, ditto. And situations which lead to flashpoints and resolutions.

‘School Days’ has all of this, and tries to create drama by positioning a trio of bad boys vs a group of good ’uns. The face-off between sunny Sooraj and the embittered Dilip,is mediated by enlightened sports teacher (Dilip Sood),who believes that it is not just marks which maketh a young man.

Full marks for nobility of purpose, and for creating some moments which seem true to life (the film was shot in a couple of Delhi schools). But,the score sheet for crisp story-telling is not so impressive. ‘School Days’ is too long, and too lacklustre.
