Advocate seeks Censor board’s intervention on ‘Son of Sardaar’

In the movie,the lead actor is shown as a turban-wearing Sardar with the tattoo of Hindu Lord Shiva on his chest.

“Since Sikhs have been forbidden by their Gurus from worshipping idols and deities,this is in anti-thesis to Sikh principles and so hurts the religious sentiments of the community,” Singh said in his letter,copies of which were released to media here.

Singh said that he had issued a legal notice to the makers of the film on August 16 and had asked them to delete the objectionable portion from the movie within 7 days.

However,Ajay has issued a statement that no part of the film hurts any religious sentiment. He is also planning to go to Amritsar to meet members of the Sikh community and show them the film.

Singh said the promos of the film which are available to public violates guidelines formulated by CBFC,especially that visuals or words contemptuous of racial,religious or other groups are not to be presented.

In this light,Singh requested the CBFC to intervene in the matter to ensure that the movie is not released without deletion of the objectionable parts and the Censor certification,in case not yet granted,should be kept pending till such material is removed from the film.

In case the certification has already been granted,it should be reviewed keeping in view the facts stated in his petition and violation of CBFC guidelines.
