Vidya Balan’s recent success with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has sparked excitement about the franchise’s future. However, the actor had surprisingly opted out of the second installment, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. In a recent conversation with SCREEN, Vidya revealed her reasons for not being part of the film.

“I was very clear why I didn’t want to do it. I think I was just scared that I might squander away all that I had earned from that film,” Vidya confessed. Her concerns stemmed from the potential risks of reprising her iconic role from the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa. She said, “When I watched that film, I realised, ‘Oh, that’s how franchises work’. It took the franchise forward without being a continuity of the first previous one. When I told Bhushan that I had loved the (BB2) trailer he told me that I’ll have to be a part of the next film, and that’s where all of this started.”

Will Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4 possibly have a reunion of sorts featuring Tabu from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Madhuri Dixit, and Vidya Balan herself, Vidya enthusiastically responded, “Yes, of course, more the merrier.”

For now, the team is basking in the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Director Anees Bazmee and the producers are likely to take their time before considering another installment. As Vidya jokingly put it, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is doing so well, we want it to keep going… We are not going to think about it (BB4) till then. It is fresh, it is new, and it is exciting… Anees bhai will also want to do something else before he thinks about another Bhool Bhulaiyaa.”

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 was released in cinemas on November 1, on Diwali. The film has grossed more than Rs 300 crore at the worldwide box office after becoming the highest-grossing film of the franchise.
