Shah Rukh Khan has watched every episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, says Kiku Sharda: ‘We made this in India!’

Kiku Sharda revealed that Shah Rukh Khan was almost in disbelief that a show of this scale and quality could even be made in India.

Everybody knows Shah Rukh Khan. Some know him as the superstar. Some as the ‘King of Bollywood.’ And others—those who’ve been lucky enough to work with him, shoot with him, or simply be around him—know him as something even more remarkable: a curious mind, a knowledge-hungry artist, a video-game addict, and an avid student of media. Now, actor-comedian Kiku Sharda, who played a brief role in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year (2014), has added another layer to that legend: Shah Rukh Khan is a massive fan of The Kapil Sharma Show.

“Shah Rukh Khan has watched every episode of the show,” Kiku revealed in a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast.

Recalling how Happy New Year came his way, Kiku said, “The film happened in 2014–2015, and The Kapil Sharma Show started in 2013. It was just around that time. I was approached by Farah Khan, who told me it was a small part but with the entire cast. I was like, okay.”

What he didn’t expect was what happened on set. “When we met for the shoot, I realised Shah Rukh Khan had watched every episode of the show. He was a fan. He genuinely enjoyed it,” Kiku said. “Boman Irani hadn’t seen much of it. So while talking to me, Shah Rukh turned to him and asked, ‘Have you seen their show?’ Then he said, ‘You have to see it.’ And then he started explaining the entire show to Boman Irani. I was thrilled. Shah Rukh Khan was narrating my show to someone with full passion saying, ‘I didn’t know we could make a show like this in India.’”

“He was genuinely happy about it,” Kiku added.

Kiku also spoke about SRK’s off-screen habits, recalling an award show where he had stepped into the superstar’s vanity van. “Most of the time when you go to his van, you will see him carrying his entire gaming setup with him. He plays FIFA with so much passion,” he said.

Beyond Happy New Year, Kiku also shot several episodes of The Kapil Sharma Show with Shah Rukh.

“He would wear anything, do anything we asked him to, and still be the superstar—yet with so much ease. He makes everyone around him comfortable. He would ask, ‘Tell me what to do?’ And I would think, how do I tell SRK what to do? He commands the industry, yet he listens to you and elevates everything to another level.”
