Sanjay Dutt recalls when mother Nargis asked him to spend some time with her: ‘We take parents for granted’
Recently, Sanjay Dutt got emotional as he remembered his parents, Nargis and Sunil Dutt. He also shared how, after their demise, he realised the importance of spending time with parents.

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt lost his mother Nargis Dutt to cancer on May 3, 1981, three days before the premiere of his debut film Rocky. He was just 21 at the time. At 46, he also lost his father Sunil Dutt. Recently, the actor got emotional as he remembered his parents. He also shared how, after their demise, he realised the importance of spending time with parents.
Dutt went to the sets of singing reality show Indian Idol 14. After a performance, judge Shreya Ghoshal asked him about his parents. and he said, “We take our parents for granted. We feel, ‘Mummy papa hain aur humesha rahenge (Mummy papa are there and they will always be there).”
The Munnabhai MBBS actor recalled what his mother once told him. “My mother said something to me, which I remember now. She used to say, ‘Sanjay mere saath baith, mere saath time guzaar (Sanjay, sit with me and spend some time with me)’ Because when I am gone, you will feel very bad. Now, I feel had I listened to her and would have spent a few hours with her during the day, I would not have this feeling.”

In an interview in the 90s, Sanjay Dutt spoke about the death of his mother. He said, “When my mother died, I didn’t cry, I had no emotions. It was after two years, I was sitting in a group and a guy started playing this tape. And, I heard my mother’s voice advising me and telling me things and how much she loved me and how much she cared about me and how much she expected from me.”
The voice of his mother impacted him so much that Dutt burst into tears and “cried for about four-five hours”. He added, “Everything that was inside me, I took it out and once that happened I was a changed man.”
