Actors Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor found each other in 2007 after both their long-term relationships didn’t work out. Saif had been married to Amrita Singh from 1991 to 2004, having two kids in the process, while Kareena and Shahid Kapoor broke up after being in a relationship for 3 years. The two actors came close on the sets of Tashan, and though their dream like story had begun, Saif recently revealed that it wasn’t all that easy.

While appearing on the talk show Two Much, co-hosted by Kajol and Twinkle Khanna, he recalled the early days of him and Kareena dating. After listening to Akshay’s story of the hoops he had to jump through before marrying Twinkle, he talked about Tashan and said, “When I went to Ladakh, we used to go for these long walks, and she’d ask me a lot of questions, which were kind of a test meets interview. Like, what is your view on love? This kind of went on for a while. It was very old-fashioned.”

Akshay took the baton of the conversation and mentioned how Twinkle and he are complete opposites. He said, “She is fire. I am water. She says whatever she wants to. I just keep myself calm and quiet. Just listen and try to understand what she’s trying to say. Do whatever you want, but listen. I think every husband should be a good listener.” Saif excitedly jumped into the conversation and said that this was something his father used to do when he was being scolded by his wife, Sharmila Tagore. He quoted his father and said, “I just think about playing cricket or something during the argument. I don’t say anything.”

Saif also recalled the harrowing stabbing incident which took place at his resident earlier this year. Talking about the night, he said, “I barged into Jeh’s room, and in the dark, I saw this guy standing over his bed with a knife. I jumped on him and we started fighting. And then, he went mad. He had these two knives, and he just started slashing all over me. Taimur looked at me upstairs, and he said, ‘Oh, my God! Are you going to die?’ And I said, no, I don’t think so. But I’ve got a pain in the back. I’m not going to die, I’m fine.”

Even though Saif obviously passed the test, their actual wedding in 2012 didn’t come without its own problems. Being an interfaith marriage, it was bound to ruffle some feathers, and recently Saif’s sister, actor Soha Ali Khan, recalled the society’s reaction to their union. She told Nayandeep Rakshit on his YouTube channel that “there’s going to be lots of haters, there’s going to be lots of voices, and that’s also okay. I am fine with everyone having an opinion, and that’s all fine. So I think these things like… interfaith marriage, even when Kunal and I got married, even when Kareena and Bhai got married, there were lots of strange things – Love Jihad, Ghar Wapsi, and all kinds of weird headlines were being made as well. You know, ‘You took one of ours, now we will take one of yours.'”

Saif and Kareena have been married for 13 years now and have two children, Taimur and Jeh.
