Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn have ‘moved on’ from Singham Again, reveal what they’ll do with its Rs 200-crore box office collection
Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn discussed the responses to Singham Again, the film doing almost Rs 200-crore business and why Golmaal-type films are still endearing to the audience
Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty open up on next collaboration and Singham Again box office collection. There is no doubt that the actor-director combination of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty are one of the most successful duos in Indian cinema. A collaboration that began with Zameen (2003) has been together for 21 years and 12 films, and the most recent addition to this list was Singham Again, which hit the screens this Diwali. The film, which is inching towards the Rs 200 crore mark in the domestic box-office, has received mixed reviews from critics and audience alike. In a recent interview with Ranveer Allahbadia’s TRS podcast, Rohit and Ajay spoke about their long-lasting friendship, their projects together, and of course… Singham Again.
Rohit said he was very happy with the results of Singham Again, but they have already started training their focus on the next. “Yes, we are happy, but our minds have already switched on to work mode,” said the filmmaker. When asked if the duo doesn’t believe in chilling and partying after such a success, Ajay said, “I don’t think we even get out of the house if not for work or family. That is our chill.”
The Ajay-Rohit combo has delivered one blockbuster after another with each film getting bigger. However, Ajay was candid enough to add that the money made through their films is invested into cinema again. When asked what will they do with the Rs 200 crore made by Singham Again, he said, “Some films demand a big budget. And we want to invest in such projects. Also, it is not about how much we earned through the film. We are more concerned about the response of the audience, and I see that Singham Again is being loved by everybody. That is the biggest currency,” said Ajay, adding, “We have now moved on from Singham Again.”
But what next for the duo? Bigger and better than Singham Again? “We want to do a lighter film like Golmaal, which will be a breather of sorts,” said Rohit, who spoke about the love their films like Golmaal and All the Best receives even now. “People still have a lot of love and nostalgic affection towards those films.”
