Kiran Rao opens up about how she and Aamir Khan coped with divorce, says they took ‘very measured’ steps

She said, “Aamir’s and my kind of separation and divorce, we had done it in a very slow and a measured way.” She added that the two of them were “very sure” of the fact that they wanted to change the status of their relationship and that they were “very conscious” about how they go about their separation in a way that it doesn’t come as a shock to their son Azad and affect their family in a bad way.

Kiran Rao also shared that she and Aamir Khan were very conscious of the timing of their divorce and the step they’d take to make it smooth for everyone involved with them. She said it was a “very thought through” decision and “nothing happened overnight”.

For the unversed, while Aamir was headlining Lagaan, Kiran was an assistant director on that movie. They began dating in 2004 and got married in 2005. The coupled embraced parenthood in 2011 when they welcomed their son Azad through surrogacy. Kiran and Aamir parted ways in 2021.
