Kesari Chapter 2 box office collection day 1: Despite opening to mostly positive reviews, Akshay Kumar’s film couldn’t reach the double digit collection on its opening day. The film earned Rs 7.5 crore India nett, according to industry tracker, Sacnilk. The film released on the holiday of Good Friday.

Kesari Chapter 2 witnessed an overall occupancy of about 20 percent across India. Kesari Chapter 2 had 3753 shows across India with 756 shows in Mumbai and 856 shows in Delhi-NCR.

A spiritual sequel to the 2019 film Kesari, this film is set against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. However, it failed to generate the same kind of momentum as done by its predecessor, which opened at Rs 21.06 crore in 2019. That film, made against the backdrop of Battle of Saragarhi, earned over Rs 78 crore in its opening weekend. However, Kesari 2 seems to be far from reaching the milestone.

Kesari Chapter 2, however, has performed better than many of his recently released films including Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira which opened at Rs 5.05 crore and Rs 2.5 crore, respectively. However, the film will evidently have a tough time matching the opening day collection of his January release, Sky Force, which made Rs 12.25 crore on opening day, and managed to make Rs 62.25 crore during its opening weekend.

Kesari Chapter 2 directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, marks the first collaboration between actors Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan. The Karan Johar production film also stars Ananya Panday in her first period drama. While Akshay Kumar plays the role of Sir Sankaran Nair, Ananya Panday plays the role of her co-council Dilreet Gill. Meanwhile, R Madhavan plays the role of Neville McKinley, who fights in favour of the British empire.

It needs to be seen if positive word-of-mouth boosts the film’s figures during the weekend.
