Yesteryear actor Ranjeet, who is one of Bollywood’s most famous villains, said that despite receiving love and adoration from the audience, his on-screen identity of “Ranjeet – the rapist” has had a negative effect on his personal life.

In an interview with Lehren, the actor was asked, “In society, has your on-screen image impacted you?” The actor replied and said, “I have left a mark on them. Kapil Dev’s sister-in-law had come for some medical treatment. So, I have a habit of shaking hands and giving a side hug. So, she got a little uncomfortable. Kapil Dev then said to her, “Ye vaisa nahi hai jaisa tu samajhti hai.”

The actor then narrated an interesting incident which happened with him while he was in Delhi. Ranjeet said that when his daughter Gigi was doing a fashion internship with designer Manish Arora, he was scared to leave her alone in Delhi and hence he would visit the city every weekend.

Further talking about the impact of his villainous image that affected him, the actor said, “She (Gigi) would take me out for dinner every night. So, most of the times, what happened, I used to walk in with her arm in arm. With high heels, she looks taller than me. So, people used to give me dirty looks, saying, “Buddha ho gaya hai, abi tak jawan ladkiyon ko leke ghoomta hai. Sharam nahi aati. (You have become old, you still roam with young women. Are you not ashamed). But people loved me also. I got so much love and affection.”

“When I did my first grey character in Sharmeelee, I was thrown out of my house. I come from a very orthodox family. They (parents) thought I got into some stupid profession where I hurt girls and abuse them (chuckles). While I played this crude man on screen, after the shot, we all used to make fun of it,” the actor had earlier told indianexpress.com.

Ranjeet has played the role of villain in more than 200 films. He was a part of films like  Sharmeelee, Bandhe Haath , Namak Halal, Humse Hai Zamana and the most recent one being Housefull.
