Deepshikha Nagpal says she turned down Shah Rukh’s Karan Arjun, Salman Khan’s Jaanam Samjha Karo: ‘I thought if I say no…’

Deepshikha Nagpal said that she let go of many opportunities in the 1990s to star as the lead heroine.

Deepshikha Nagpal, who appeared in films like Baadshah and Partner, recently revealed that she was once offered prominent roles in films like Karan Arjun, Jaanam Samjha Karo and Laadla but she declined those roles. In a new interview with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Deepshikha said that she did not have a godfather in the film industry and hence, she made many impulsive decisions during the 1990s, which probably hampered her career in a negative way.

Deepshikha recalled that director Rakesh Roshan had actually offered her the role opposite Salman Khan in Karan Arjun, which was later done by Mamta Kulkarni. “The first day I met Rakesh Roshan, he offered me Karan Arjun. I immediately said no. I thought if I say no, he will cast my sister but now I understand that he wanted a petite girl. It was for Mamta Kulkarni’s role. He said okay and he never asked me why,” she recalled. Rakesh later cast Deepshikha in a negative role in his film Koyla, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit.

She also shared that Anil Kapoor, who she really idolised, offered her a song in Laadla. But she turned it down with he thought that she would rather have the opportunity to star in a film with him. “Anil Kapoor came to me and offered me a song in Laadla. He said you look like Parveen Babi. That song was ‘Ladki hai kya re baba’. I heard him and I said no. I said I want to do a film with you,” she recalled.

A few years later, when Deepshikha was working with Shah Rukh Khan in Baadshah, she was was offered one of the key roles in Salman Khan-starrer Jaanam Samjha Karo but she missed that too as she impulsively rejected the role. Deepshikha said that she shouldn’t have made any rash decisions and should have thought deeply before rejecting any movies.

Deepshikha had a successful career in television. She was last seen in shows like Na Umra Ki Seema Ho and Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein 2.
