De De Pyaar De 2 box office collection day 1 early estimates: De De Pyaar De 2, the sequel to Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh’s 2019 hit romantic comedy De De Pyaar De, is off to a positive start at the box office. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 5.17 crore as of 8 pm on its opening day.

De De Pyaar De 2 recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 10.31% in theatres on Friday—morning shows at 7.46%, afternoon shows at 10.66%, and evening shows at 12.80%, with night-show data yet to be updated. Chennai registered the highest occupancy at 31.67%.

The rom-com is expected to see a boost in numbers over the opening weekend, driven by positive word of mouth. The first instalment experienced a similar trend, with its collections doubling after day one.

Besides De De Pyaar De 2, Bollywood has seen several other romantic-comedy releases this year, including Rajkummar Rao’s Bhool Chuk Maaf, which collected Rs 7 crore on its opening day, Janhvi Kapoor-Sidharth Malhotra’s Param Sundari, which earned Rs 7.25 crore, and Janhvi Kapoor-Varun Dhawan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which opened at Rs 9.25 crore. It will be interesting to see whether De De Pyaar De 2 can compete with these films, or even match its own first instalment, which collected Rs 10.41 crore on day one.

De De Pyaar De 2, meanwhile, opened to mixed reviews. An excerpt of SCREEN’s review of De De Pyaar De read, “I had really enjoyed the first one for its novelty factor, as well as the perkiness of Rakul Preeti Singh who balanced the dour niceness of Ajay Devgn: the presence of Tabu, who plays Devgn’s older love, added to the film, as it always does. In this one, Rakul is as animated, but Devgn appears almost subdued, with Jaaved Jafferi returning as his pal-and-therapist providing tips to navigate the tricky terrain the former has landed in — what do you call your ‘hone-wali-saas’ who is most likely younger than you ? Mummyji, behenji, yaaaa by her name?”

Besides Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh, De De Pyaar De 2 also stars R Madhavan, Meezan Jaafferi, Gautami Kapoor, Jaaved Jaafferi, and Ishita Dutta.
