Article 370 box office collection day 2: Yami Gautam’s controversial film saw a surge in ticket sales on its first Saturday, grossing Rs 7.5 crore.

Article 370, starring Yami Gautam and Priyamani, is continuing its strong run at the box office. The political film is being perceived as divisive but despite that, the Aditya Dhar-produced film made Rs 7.5 crore at the box office on Saturday taking its nett domestic total to Rs 13.4 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

On Saturday, Article 370 recorded an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 26.58 percent, with peak attendance observed during evening screenings, reaching 44.39 percent. Benefiting from discounted ticket rates in several cities, Article 370 started strong on its opening day, when it amassed Rs 5.9 crore. Article 370 released in theatres alongside Vidyut Jammwal and Nora Fatehi-starrer action flick Crakk. While Crakk kicked off with a respectable Rs 4.25 crore, it couldn’t maintain the pace, managing only Rs 2.75 crore on the second day.

Many have been comparing Article 370 to Vivek Agnihotri’s 2022 film The Kashmir Files. The Kashmir Files was one of the biggest hits of the year as it went on to make Rs 252.90 crore during its theatrical run. After two days in the theatres, Article 370 is outperforming The Kashmir Files. The Vivek Agnihotri film stood at Rs 12.05 crore after the first two days.

Article 370 delves into the contentious subject of the abrogation of Article 370, which revoked the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir. Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale and produced by Aditya Dhar and B62 Studios, the movie also features Kiran Karmarkar, and Arun Govil in pivotal roles.

Article 370 was endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech in Jammu even before its release. The film has released shortly after the Atal Bihar Vajpayee biopic Atal. Bastar: The Naxal Story, made by the team of The Kerala Story, is also set to release soon, followed by Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.
