In today’s times, it is far from easy for a top-tier celebrity to live a life away from the spotlight. But even before the digital era, Aamir Khan never shied away from talking about his personal life publicly. It was refreshingly candid change of pace, and it is this candidness that came to the fore again in an interaction at the India Today Conclave 2025. Talking about his equations with ex-wives Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, Aamir spoke about how his admiration and affection for them never waned.

“Reena and I were married, and were together for 16 years. It was a runaway marriage… we eloped and got married,” said Aamir adding that the two of his most important relationships were with Reena and Kiran. “Both Reena and Kiran are amazing people. These two women are the ones I have spent my life with, and they have given me a lot.”

Reiterating that divorce doesn’t mean the end of the road for a relationship, Aamir said, “Divorce doesn’t mean that we don’t have a lot of respect and love for each other. Maybe we have moved on in our relationship, but I have the highest regard for both Kiran and Reena and their families. In fact, I’m very close to their families.”

In an earlier interview, Kiran too had opened up about how she shares a warm relationship with Aamir’s mother, and they keep in touch despite the divorce.

Aamir, who is just a few days away from turning 60, has had one of the most successful and celebrated careers in Indian cinema, and seems to be at an interesting crossroads on how to shape his career after the back-to-back setbacks in the form of Thugs of Hindostan and Laal Singh Chaddha. He will next be seen in RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par, and is speculated to be appearing in a cameo in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-awaited Coolie, headlined by Rajinikanth.
