Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has responded to US President Donald Trump’s criticism and said she feels “very sorry” for the president because he’s a liar and a “hateful” man after the president called her “very dumb” and denied his former close ally still embraces “America first” values, CNN reported.

Greene, who was once a stalwart Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporter, said in an interview on CNN’s “The Situation Room”, “I feel very sorry for President Trump. I genuinely do. It has to be a hard place for someone that is constantly so hateful and puts so much vitriol, name-calling and really tells lies about people in order to try to get his way or win some kind of fight.”

Greene, who is Republican party’s representative from Georgia, accused Trump of fuelling death threats against her child after the Republican president criticised her and called her a “traitor”. Trump further called Greene a “rotten apple” and a “very dumb person” after she said she was “America First” and no longer the MAGA bandwagon.

Greene, during her appearance on CNN further said, “And I think that’s exactly what’s wrong in America today. That’s what’s wrong in this toxic political environment that has ripped our country apart. And I personally think that that’s poor leadership from a president. It’s a very bad demeanor. And Americans are very tired of it.”

Greene recently apologised for the role she played in contributing to the toxic political culture of the United States and she was asked during the CNN interview to what extent President Trump is responsible for the toxicity, to which she said, “Oh, absolutely. He’s a leader in it, so were others on the other side,” pointing to former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department which she said was “weaponised” against Trump and his family.
