Nipun Goel and Nikunj Goel, twin brothers from Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur, have scored 100 and 99.99 percentile, respectively, in the JEE Main 2023 session 1. The National Testing Agency released the JEE Main result on Tuesday. Twenty candidates, including Nipun Goel, have scored perfect 100.
Nipun and Nikunj said they not only helped each other but also maintained a healthy competition.
“In the past two years, we supported each other. Our schedules and preparation strategies were in sync, so that worked in our favour. When either of us got stuck on some topic, we brainstormed and tried to find a solution,” Nipun told The Indian Express.
The Goel brothers are now hoping to earn seats either in IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay in the Computer Science Engineering (CSE) department.
When asked about the reason for pursuing a popular course rather than going for other engineering courses, Nipun said: “We are aware of what (former IIT-Delhi director) Ramgopal Rao has advised students about looking beyond CSE. However, we are interested in coding. We want to pursue CSE so that we can better our skills in coding.”
The twins started preparing for JEE Mains after Class 10. However, as it was a Covid pandemic year, their classes switched to online mode in April 2021. While the virtual classes saved their travel time, it was offline classes that helped them perform better.
“Offline classes help you stay focused and determined. When you are physically present in a class with other students and a teacher, that makes you more disciplined — something that is difficult to achieve in online classes. Most importantly, offline classes offer you proper interaction and guidance from teachers, which is rarely possible in online classes,” the brothers explained.
The UP boys had to travel 35 km four days a week to attend their JEE classes in FIITJEE, Meerut.
“It is important to revise your daily lessons on your own. Our teachers help us understand the concepts, but it is important to go through our class notes and find time for self-study. Make sure that you attempt all (class) tests properly as it will help you learn time management,” they said.
Nipun and Nikunj are fans of the TV reality show ‘Shark Tank’. “We have not seen the second season yet as we were busy preparing for the JEE Main. Also, our favourite shark Ashneer Grover is missing from the show this season,” they said.
The brothers wish to appear, pitch and get funding for their proposed start-up in future.“If we get a chance, we would like to present our plans in front of the sharks someday,” Nipun added.
Other than watching Shark Tank, Nipun and Nikunj enjoy playing basketball. However, they had to give up playing video games because of JEE preparation.
So what’s their advice to JEE aspirants? “Adjust your routine in daily studies. Our schedule should be flexible, according to your classes, energy and syllabus,” the brothers said.
