When did I first hear about IIT?

I first heard about IIT in Class 8, my brother was preparing for it. He is currently in his final year of engineering at IIT-BHU. Seeing my brother and hearing all the good things about IIT— the culture, the atmosphere and the opportunities it offers, I too became determined to crack the exam and study at an IIT.

Why did I choose engineering?

I had an interest in Computers and Mathematics and wanted to pursue a career studying these subjects. Plus, when my brother was preparing for JEE, I got introduced to the idea of being an engineer.

My study schedule

I used to study from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. But, I didn’t study for that long at a stretch. I would study for two hours and then take a break. If I got too overwhelmed, I would take a short nap or talk to my friends.

What are my future plans?

Though not very certain, I plan to pursue an MBA after college as I want to become a CEO.

Books I referred to

For Mathematics, I didn’t refer to any books, only the problem sheets given by the school. For Physics, I referred to HC Verma and Physics Galaxy. For Physical Chemistry, I referred to Peter Atkins, for Organic and Inorganic Chemistry I referred to NCERT only.

Coming from a state board, it wasn’t difficult as the syllabus of NCERT and state board was the same for PCM in Class 11 and 12 except for a few chapters.

Tips for future aspirants

There is no substitute for hard work. You have to give your 100 per cent. Also, one has to be consistent with their efforts. Remember to stay calm on the day of the examination as it will help you concentrate better.
