IIT-Gandhinagar invites applications for MSc in Cognitive and Brain Sciences programme

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar is inviting applications for their master’s programme in Cognitive Science. Interested candidates will have to register online for the entrance test. A written examination will be conducted online to shortlist candidates for the interview stage. Interviews will be held offline. Application forms for IIT Gandhinagar Cognitive and Brain Science programme are available at admissions.iitgn.ac.in/pgadmission.

According to an institute statement, IIT Gandhinagar has set up a state-of-the-art Department of Cognitive and Brain Sciences to conduct high-quality research in areas of cognitive sciences. It has been a pioneer in the field of cognitive science as the first IIT to start the MSc (Cognitive Science) in 2013 and a PhD programme in Cognitive Science in 2010.

The programme has a forward-thinking curriculum, the institute said, with core courses embracing the interdisciplinary fields of psychology, philosophy, computation and neuroscience.

The programme is designed to engage students in research with integrated laboratory courses covering research methodologies and experimental techniques including behavioural studies, physiological measurements, eye tracking, motion tracking, brain stimulation, brain mapping with EEG and functional MRI.

The unique feature of the MSc programme, IIT Gandhinagar added, is a two-months’ summer internship that the students pursue in various top Indian institutes such as NIMHANS, Bengaluru, IIT Delhi, IIT Mandi, IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, and abroad with competitive fellowships such as the Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship, DAAD Exchange Fellowship, Computation and Cognition Tübingen Summer Internship, Radboud Gateway Fellowship, Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, etc.

For financial support, eligible candidates admitted to the MSc Cognitive Science programme can apply for the ‘On-Campus Employment Opportunities Programme’. The institute also encourages the MSc Cognitive Science students to present their research work at national and international conferences and will provide travel scholarships of up to Rs 60,000.
