Amid a rise in Covid cases across the country, wearing of masks have been made mandatory in several states and cities.

The single-day Covid case count in Delhi crossed the 1,000-mark on Wednesday after the city saw 1,149 fresh cases with the positivity rate at 23.8 per cent, and a death, according to the health bulletin released by the state health department.
It added that Covid finding was incidental in the death. As per the bulletin, 4,827 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
Amid a rise in Covid cases across the country, wearing of masks have been made mandatory in several states and cities.
The state government as well as central government hospitals across the city have been following the standard guidelines and directed doctors and staff to wear masks. Public announcements are also being made to avoid overcrowding in the OPDs.
Currently, there are 3,347 active Covid cases in Delhi, of which 1,995 are in home isolation and 203 patients are in hospitals.
According to doctors, cases will rise but those who are at high risk and with comorbidities have been advised to wear masks.
Dr Jugal Kishore, head of the Community Medicine Department at Safdarjung Hospital said that it will take 10-15 days for the virus to be transmitted in a city like Delhi which is densely populated.
“We are seeing that it takes one and a half months to overcome the peak so if it is further transmissible, the duration would be much shorter and recovery will be faster as we have seen not many are going to hospitals and only comorid and elderly are being hospitalised,” he said.
Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, consultant physician and an epidemiologist, said that all those who are at a high risk should start adopting masks at public places as that will reduce the cases
further.
