(Sansad TV via PTI Photo) (PTI12_09_2025_000191B)TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee surprised many in Parliament on Tuesday with a change of look. Seen mostly wearing Nehru jackets, paired with a kurta or a full-sleeve shirt and trousers, the Sreerampur MP donned a suit and a red tie, drawing compliments from many for his “sharp look”. Even Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla praised Banerjee for his attire as the MP rose to speak during the debate on election reforms. “Aaj suit aur tie ke hisaab se bologe na aap (Today you are wearing suit and tie, hope you will speak accordingly),” Birla told Banerjee with a smile.
Amid the Opposition’s “vote chori” claims, BJP’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha Sanjay Jaiswal took a subtle dig at LoP Rahul Gandhi, saying, “Home Minister Amit Shah does not travel abroad at all because such trips do not increase votes for BJP.” Speaking during the debate on election reforms, Jaiswal said: “Our PM has not taken rest for a single day in the last 12 years and that is giving the BJP workers inspiration to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.” He went on to blame the “vacation trip of the INDIA bloc leader to Bangkok, Cambodia and Colombia” as the reason behind the alliance’s poor performance in polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to NDA MPs to ensure that common citizens do not face hardships was misunderstood by some members as a take on the IndiGo crisis. Soon after the PM’s address Tuesday, the misinterpreted message made headlines, prompting some senior leaders to clarify that the PM was referring to the general hardships faced by the people. The MPs later admitted that the line “people should not be troubled” seemed like a warning on the chaos triggered by the IndiGo crisis.
