With German weekly magazine Der Spiegel's cartoon mocking India’s population numbers surpassing China’s drawing flak — it showed overcrowded trains in India vis-a-vis sleek Chinese trains — German envoy to India, Philipp Ackermann, has come out defending India’s railway system.

With German weekly magazine Der Spiegel’s cartoon mocking India’s population numbers surpassing China’s drawing flak — it showed overcrowded trains in India vis-a-vis sleek Chinese trains — German envoy to India, Philipp Ackermann, has come out defending India’s railway system. “Delhi’s Metro and the railway system is better than [the one] in Germany,” he has said. Ackermann said he invites the cartoonist for a ride on Delhi Metro to get the correct perspective. Although the German press is as free as India’s, Ackermann said, he personally did not find the cartoon to be funny.

Attorney General R Venkataramani will likely address the Supreme Court bench hearing petitions seeking recognition of same-sex marriages next week. On Thursday, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud reminded that the A-G was also part of the Law Commission which, in its 242nd report, suggested a legal framework to prevent interference with the Freedom of Matrimonial Alliances (in the name of Honour and Tradition).
