IIT Roorkee will conduct the JEE Advanced 2026 on May 17, 2026. The exam serves as the single-window gateway to IITs, which promise world-class education, cutting-edge research facilities, prestigious career options, and lucrative placement opportunities across fields.
In the latest cycle of engineering placements, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati recorded year-on-year changes in total offers, highest packages, and the number of BTech students placed. The 2024-25 placement season at IIT Guwahati witnessed 637 out of 842 BTech students securing placements, resulting in an overall placement percentage of 75.65%.

The institution received 193 pre-placement offers (PPOs) during the academic year, with a notable 26% of these offers extended to female students. This marked a slight decrease from the previous year’s 229 PPOs recorded in 2023-24, while the number of registered companies stood at 466 in the preceding year.
Computer Science and Engineering continued its dominance. A total of 107 students were placed out of 118 registered, achieving an exceptional 90.68% placement rate. Mathematics and Computing surpassed this slightly with 69 placements from 76 students, recording the highest placement percentage at 90.79%.

Comparing the two academic years reveals interesting trends across departments. Computer Science and Engineering maintained its high placement percentage, moving from 91% in 2023-24 to 90.68% in 2024-25, with a slight increase in student intake from 119 to 118. Mathematics and Computing showed improvement from 87% to 90.79%, while Electronics and Communication Engineering remained relatively stable at 85% in 2023-24 and 85.71% in 2024-25.
However, some disciplines experienced fluctuations. Chemical Engineering saw a decrease from 79% in 2023-24 to 68.97% in 2024-25, while Civil Engineering remained consistent around 66%. Engineering Physics showed a significant improvement from 45% in 2023-24 to 59.62% in 2024-25, though it still ranked among the lower placement percentages.

The 2024-25 academic year saw Computer Science and Engineering maintaining its position as the highest-paying discipline with a median salary of Rs 34.10 LPA and an average of Rs 36.94 LPA. This represented a slight decrease from the previous year’s median of Rs 34.50 LPA and average of Rs 39.91 LPA. Data Science and Artificial Intelligence emerged as the second-highest paying discipline with a median of Rs 25 LPA and average of Rs 33.98 LPA.
Mathematics and Computing students secured competitive packages with a median salary of Rs 25 LPA and an average of Rs 33.14 LPA, showing consistency with the previous year’s median of Rs 26.82 LPA. The overall BTech median salary for 2024-25 stood at Rs 20.44 LPA with an average of Rs 25.21 LPA across all placed students.
Electronics and Communication Engineering recorded a median salary of Rs 23.43 LPA and an average of Rs 24.82 LPA in 2024-25, compared to Rs 21.50 LPA median and Rs 27.30 LPA average in 2023-24. Electronics and Electrical Engineering students received a median of Rs 21.2 LPA and average of Rs 24.38 LPA, slightly lower than the previous year’s Rs 22.76 LPA median.

Core engineering branches showed moderate performance in both placement rates and compensation. Mechanical Engineering placed 71 out of 102 students (69.61%) with a median salary of Rs 17 LPA and average of Rs 18.19 LPA, remaining stable from the previous year’s Rs 15 LPA median. Chemical Engineering achieved 60 placements from 87 registered students (68.97%) with median and average salaries of Rs 15 LPA and Rs 17.14 LPA respectively.
Civil Engineering recorded 65 placements out of 98 students (66.33%), with students receiving a media salary of Rs 17 LPA and average of Rs 20.57 LPA. This showed an improvement from the previous year’s median of Rs 14.43 LPA. The core engineering sector continued to recruit through Graduate Engineer Trainee and Post Graduate Trainee positions, with 14 PSUs participating in the placement drive during 2023-24.
The IT and Software sector remained the largest recruiter, offering roles such as Software Development Engineer, Member Technical Staff, Design, R&D, Developers, and Data Science positions. Finance sector companies recruited for Quant and Algorithmic Trader profiles, primarily attracting students from high-performing technical disciplines.
Non-technical profiles including Business Analyst, Associate Product Manager, and Marketing Manager saw participation from varied disciplines. Core Engineering firms recruited through Graduate Engineer Trainee, Post Graduate Trainee, and Technical Executive positions. The Education sector offered Teaching roles, while Design companies recruited for Product Designer, Graphic Designer, and UX/UI positions. In 2023-24, 102 students secured packages of Rs 50 LPA CTC or above, with the highest salary offered reaching Rs 2.05 Crore.
