The very fact that key-ing in the words ‘This is it’on Google gives out 135 crore results, proves how popular the film has become even much before its release. Exactly four months back he died, but the king of pop,Michael Jackson still rules the hearts of his innumerable fans. His much-awaited film – This is it – which is a tribute to the moonwalker,is set to hit city theatres on October 28.

A die-hard fan of the moonwalker,21-year-old Jatin Chaddha, who had earlier booked tickets for the concert which was due to happen in London, considers this a lifetime opportunity which is as good as seeing the star performing alive. Working as a recruitment consultant with and MNC,he has already booked his tickets for the movie,to which his 19 friends, who are again big-time fans of the star, will accompany him. “Unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to see the great singer when he was alive. Since the film will run just for two weeks in theatres,we plan to watch it atleast three-four times,” says Chaddha.

Despite releasing two days prior to Friday, which falls in the middle of the week, the tickets of the movie in most of the city theatres are partially sold out for the Wednesday show. Anticipating the response the film would receive, advance booking for the film was started one month ago in multiplexes such as Inox and Big Cinemas.

Sandeep Shetty, cinema manager at Big Cinemas feels it is a good week for the movie goers as besides MJ’s This is it,there are two other blockbusters releasing on Friday i.e. the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Aladdin and Salman Khan’s London Dreams. “Initially we plan to run only one show but we might increase the number of shows by Thursday,” says Shetty.

Considering MJ’s fan following,at Inox, where earlier there was a plan to run only one show on Wednesday, now there are as many as six shows in a day. General Manager at the multiplex Vipin Jha said that the maximum number of tickets have been sold and are expected to increase as by today.

Even E-Square,where the advance booking for the film started on Sunday, plans to go ahead with four-six shows from Wednesday. “The response has been good so far and we expect it to pick up more today. The movie should do well. There is no doubt that Michael Jackson is larger than life even after his death. People who were not regular fans of MJ have started listening to his music and a movie like this would be a treat for everyone,” says Neerav Panchamiya, operations manager,E-Square.

“As of now,we are going ahead with two shows on Wednesday, but we might extend the number of shows by Thursday, depending upon the collections we get on the first day, which hopefully will be good,” says co-owner of Citypride,Kothrud,Hrushikesh Taphalkar.
