The University of Pune has finally resolved the issue of discrepancies in three questions in the recently-held PhD entrance test by allotting full marks for those three questions to all candidates. The university announced the result of the aptitude test on Wednesday.
As many as 7,152 candidates appeared for the first-ever PhD entrance exam conducted on Sunday. The exam is being held in two phases,of which first was the aptitude test. Several candidates, who appeared for the aptitude test, had alleged that three questions were wrong and had officially complained to the SET department that carried out the test.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, the university decided to give full marks to the questions that were doubtful, said acting vice chancellor Arun Adsool.
With this the candidates, who had expressed fear that some might fail by one or two marks due to this discrepancy, are relieved.
In fact, the result of the aptitude test was 70.2 per cent. Those who have cleared the aptitude test will now appear for the exam related to their PhD subject on February 21.
The university is conducting the exam for the first time as per the new norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The UGC has made the entrance exam compulsory as a part of bringing transparency in the process of granting PhDs.
