Two illegal immigrants arrested

The Khadki police on Thursday arrested two persons allegedly hailing from Bangladesh.

The Khadki police on Thursday arrested two persons allegedly hailing from Bangladesh. Police have identified the suspects as Mohammed Shahin Mohammed Kalu Matubbar (25) and Mohammed Ilyaz Mohammed Hashim Gazi (30),both natives of Madirapur in Bangladesh.

Acting on a tip-off,a team led by Senior Inspector Bhimrao Tele nabbed the two in Patil Estate Slums around 4 pm under relevant sections of the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act. Police have seized their cellphones and SIM cards.

Investigation is on to find out when and how they infiltrated into India and reached Pune. The probe is also on to ascertain if more Bangaldeshis have reached Pune illegally.

The suspects were produced in a Khadki court on Friday. The court remanded them in police custody for four days. During interrogation,the suspects reportedly told police that they came to Pune a few days ago and were looking for a job at some construction site.

“The suspects entered India illegally by crossing the border. They do not possess passports. They said they were currently staying at Pune railway station area,” said Tele.
