When Chintan Pokar and Vishal Nale, two photography students at FAD International, visited the cattle fair at Pushkar,Rajasthan,a whole new world opened up for them to capture. Back then,a year ago, they had no idea that they would exhibit their photographs here.

“Pushkar is a photographer’s delight. The sun, camels and the sand form the perfect backdrop for good photography,” says 21-year-old Pokar, while describing their experience of being in the midst of thousands of camels and horses. “Photographers from all around the world were present for this annual event,” adds 23-year-old Nale. The duo is exhibiting 40 frames, captured during the day and at dusk. Before planning out the exhibition, these youngsters researched extensively on the people of Rajasthan. They were also inspired by Alex Bernasconi, the famous Italian wildlife photographer and tried to capture frames, based on his Africa series.

Though both are photography students,Pokar has a background in Foreign Trade while Nale has specialised in Information Technology. “I never liked being an engineer. Now that I have an opportunity,I want to excel in photography,” adds Nale.

The youngsters own expensive cameras but it is their personal touch which enhances each frame, they say. “The person behind the camera holds more significance than the camera itself,” Pokar says. “It is about composing the right frame mentally and capturing the beauty at the other end,” describes Nale.

The two have worked on all aspects of the exhibition, right from planning to execution. “Holding an exhibition calls for a lot of hard work. After zeroing in on the photographs,we were faced with the next task of finding a venue,” says Nale. Their exhibition will be held over the weekend at FAD Studio,Koregaon Park. “Our college has been very supportive. We are also looking at some of the shopping malls to display our photographs,” they say.

These enthusiastic shutterbugs are also gearing up for their tour to Kenya and Europe along with their classmates for similar photography projects. “Photography is all about traveling and exploring. We plan to exhibit more of our works, once we’re back from our tours,” Nale signs off.
