The winning moment

People thronged fences round the race track, their eyes turned towards the large screen, carefully watching which horse seemed likely to win the PRA Independence Million trophy. As bookies made their rounds in the enclosures, several racegoers picked their favourite horses to place their bets on. “Three is my lucky number,” said one,as another one looked at the screens and asked her friends,“What about number 12? Seems to be a favourite with everyone.” The horses were just about half way through the 2,000-metre race, when some people winced — jockey No 7 had fallen off.

But the race went on. Without a warning, the bright day gave way to a sudden shower. But nobody seemed to mind getting wet and started cheering for their favourites. At this point, the horses went so fast that one couldn’t see their hooves touch the ground. As the race ended, spectators erupted in cheers for the winning horse which had an interesting name — Woven Dreams.

The race ended, but the party went on. And though it was a dry day, people flocked around the bar for unusual mocktails such as Chilli margarita and Citrus caprioska at the party hosted by Rustom and Zubin Bharucha. City-based band The Full Monty played popular numbers such as Mamma mia,Feel this moment and Skyfall, and surprised everyone with their rendition of Gangnam style.
