Some reel fun

Come December, all we can think of is wine, cakes, puddings and of course beautifully embellished Christmas trees.

This holiday season, some Puneites plan to beat the chills and yet enjoy the festive spirit with their favourite Christmas films

Come December, all we can think of is wine, cakes, puddings and of course beautifully embellished Christmas trees. But there’s also another very important form of entertainment that we almost can’t do without – films,or to be more precise,Christmas films! Many have grown up watching Christmas films every year that are now classics, and the younger generation too is enjoying the humour and delicate relationships shown in these movies.

If one is not partying away on Christmas or New Year’s Eve or when one wants to take a break from all the socialising, the best thing to do is snuggle under the warmth of a blanket, play some of the favourite festive movies and drown the night in the joys and sorrows, laughs and tears of the reel world. “The one name that comes to mind is Home Alone 1,” says Reema,a writer for a website. “I love the innocence and intelligence of the little kid. His performance is excellent and the film is fun to watch,” she adds.

There are many films made on Christmas, with Santa and the elves, but there are also those that have this festive period as the backdrop. Entrepreneur Nimish Atra says,“The certified classic It’s a Wonderful Life and the equally brilliant Love Actually top the Christmas movie list . But for my movie night,I guess I’d opt for a lighter movie like A Christmas Story.” Films are often seen as the extension to any celebrations, and when it comes to Christmas, there is a long list of films. Films like A Christmas Carol and A Christmas Story are everyone’s favourites. Though they aren’t new films, people don’t mind revisiting them. “A Christmas Story is one film that I have seen so many times, and yet it never fails to entertain me. It brings back all those fond memories,” Nimish adds.

There are many in the city for whom watching a film during this holiday season is a part of the celebrations. Anand Kadam,a software engineer, says,“Polar Express is my pick for the season. It has that much needed feel and longing for homecoming, and as it is an animated film,it is ideal for families.” Engineer Akhilesh Mishra adds,“It doesn’t necessarily have to be a Christmas film. There are many films which have the same charm and affection in the plot and the drama of a Christmas film. Serendipity is one such film and I will be watching it this holiday season. The film just pulls the right strings; it is one I can watch whenever I feel depressed and low.” So,bring out those favourite DVDs and sit together to enjoy some family movie time!
