Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stern warning to the United States, saying Iran would fire back “with everything we have” in case of a renewed attack. These remarks come amid rising tensions between Iran and the US following Iran’s deadly crackdown on anti-government protests, reports the Associated Press.
Araghchi made the statement in an opinion article published in The Wall Street Journal. He said Iran’s armed forces would not show restraint if attacked again, referring to the brief war with Israel in June 2025. He added that a wider conflict would be ‘ferocious’, long-lasting, and would spread across the Middle East, affecting people worldwide.
The warning comes as the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group moves west towards the Middle East from Asia. US Navy officials confirmed the carrier and accompanying destroyers are heading west, though they stopped short of confirming their final destination.
Human rights groups say at least 4,519 people have been killed in Iran during the protests, making it the deadliest unrest in decades. More than 26,300 people have been arrested, according to activists. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has blamed the United States for the unrest.
