One of the constructions companies in the city has unveiled its unique calendar this year to mark the golden jubilee year of the state of Maharashtra. The calendar attempts to a give a glimpse of the life and remarkable work of 12 personalities from various fields like language,literature,arts,culture,politics,academics,social reform that have made signification contribution in building the state of Maharashtra. These personalities include Abalal Rehman,Gopal Krishna Gokhale,Barrister Jayakar,Ram Ganesh Gadkari,Prabodhankar Thackeray,Bal Gandharva,Balkavi,Acharya Vinoba Bhave,C. D. Deshmukh,V S Khandekar,Acharya Atre and V Shantaram. The calendar also has message from the President of India,Pratibha Patil appreciating the effort. Apart from having some information about these personalities the calendar also has manuscript handwritten by these personalities. The manuscripts have been taken from ‘Aisi Akshare’ – the manuscript collection by Ram Deshpande from Kolhapur.

In the wild
The city is hosting Ecoscope – a nature and wildlife photography exhibition organised by Foliage Outdoors. Entering its seventh year,Ecoscope 2010 will befin today till January 10 at Yashwantrao Chavan Art Gallery. The event is a platform for budding and amateur wildlife photographers who have managed to capture the fantastic natural beauty and diversity of our country. Every year,this exhibition showcase some of the rarest and most fascinating glimpses of the wild. Ecoscope ’10 would comprise of almost 200 photographs taken by 48 photographers covering the entire expanse of India – from the cold desert of Ladakh to the isles of Andamans and from the dense forests of the north-east to the dry regions of Kutch. It will also include photographs from almost all the leading wildlife reserves and tiger habitats like Kanha,Corbett,Bandhavgarh,Ranthambhore,Nagarahole and Tadoba. The exhibition would also host a contest for all the visitors – the “ Evergreen Eco-caption Competition”. In this competition,participants are expected to create their own slogans based on the theme of nature.
