Jhimmad- a journey showing different aspects and moods of rain by Shabdamegh,a city-based theatre group,will be showcased at Prithvi theatre in Mumbai on January 25.

Jhimmad- a journey showing different aspects and moods of rain by Shabdamegh,a city-based theatre group,will be showcased at Prithvi theatre in Mumbai on January 25. The significance of rain to an artist,rain that relates middle aged women,rain-building relationships,Jhimmad implores one to see the rain from a different aspect. It vanishes preformed notions about rain. “This presentation does not contain any fixed character but different characters going through different phases of life and their relation to rain. We have been graced and appreciated by many famous poets such as Mangesh Padgaonkar,Sangeeta Barve,Sudhir Moghe,Shrikant Moghe and Sangivani Bokil and so on,” says Swanand Barve,director Jhimmad.

Music mélange
Find solace in devotional music and songs,or get carried by the beats and notes of various musical instruments,the Open Night Music Concert has it all for music lovers. Scheduled to begin on Januray 17,the three-day event will feature three major segments. Bhakti Geet segment on Januray 17 will see Shri Wageshwari Mandal make the audience feel the presence of the almighty through their music,while Jaltarang on second day. Milind Tulankar on Jaltarang will set the tune right by presenting a jugalbandi of tabla (Ganesh Tanwade),pakhawaj (Govind Bhilare) and jaltarang. On the third and the final day Pragnya Wakhlu would render some soulful music under the name Soul Strings. She will be accompanied by Ameya Bhurke on the lead guitar who has been playing for a Bombay based band. The concerts will be accompanied by Live painting demonstrations by artists. The events would take place at Millenium Plaza,Opposite Fergusson College at 6.30 in the evening.

No child’s play
It aims at development – of theatre,culture and also the children,who participate in it. Children of Shilpkar group from Aurangabad performed on the play Raja Ranila Gham Hava and Chimna Bandhato Bangala,both written by renowned Marathi playwright late Vijay Tendulkar. Shilpkar group is constantly working for child development through theatre. The event witnessed a ehthusiastic participation by the children and an equally loud appreciation by the audience at Sudharshan Rangmanch recently. In the first play Raja Ranila Gham Hava the king and queen of a state are searching for the sweat in their kingdom. It’s a social comment about work and hardship. The play is directed by Professor Preshit Rudravar. In the second play a sparrow is trying to be different from his society and chooses to build a bunglow rather than building a nest. The play Chimna Bandhato Bangala was about general social consequence of being isolated from society and keeping the doors of houses shut. The play is directed by Jayshri Godase. The child artistes,who performed were in the age group of eight to 14 years. Suryakant Saraf,member,Shilpkar Group,says,”Apart from the fcat that children learn to cooperate and work in a team while performing in a play,the various characters that they play also teaches them values of life. We choose such plays from which a good mesaage can be given to the society and the participants also learn from it.”

Let there be light
From plain off white wax sticks to stone studded and dried petal embedded ones –candles have come a long way. Year after year,it only improved in terms of fragrance,look,feel and importance. Keeping the importance of candle and its demand in mind,a candle-making workshop is being organised on January 20 by Kanwal Kaur at the Gold’s Gym,Kalyani Nagar. The workshop would include making your own personalized designer candles to decorate ones home or to gift your loved ones. In total,15 types of professional candles including aroma,scented,chipped,dry flowers,colored,multicolored,frosted,ice candles,decoration on candles and professional packaging of candles,will be taught. The timings for the workshop will be 3pm to 6pm and the last day for registration for the same is January 18.

Motherly love
In his attempt to pay tribute to the city,Vithal Kamat,managing director of Kamat Hotels constructed a statue of a mother and a child at Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. Pravin Sinhapardeshi,Pune municipal commisioner and Kamat inaugurated the statue that was made entirely out of recycled material at a garden at Katraj Dehu Road bypass. Dada Jadhavrao,Yeshwant Khaire and Tarita Mehendale were also present. The statue and the surrounding park will be maintained by Kamat Hotels India Ltd. The statue,which is the brain child of Kamat himself,resembles a mother lying down and playing with her child who is resting on her folded legs with a message- A child gives birth to a mother. Kamat says,”The idea behind making this statue is to make the city beautiful. The city has given us so much; this is our way of returning back to the city. The government has also been very cooperative in our venture and we plan to construct few more such gardens with the municipal corporation’s support in the near future.” The entire structure is made out of 6 mm and 8 mm iron bars and weighs 3600 kilograms. The entire iron used has been procured from the scrap. Anti rusting protection has been given so that it survives for a longer period of time.
