Abhijit Ranade,22,capped a dream run,lifting the the fourth edition of the PYC-Green Baize Snooker Knockout Championships. The tournament was organised in the memory of the Late Rajabhau Shahade at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana.
In the finals played on Tuesday evening,Abhijit Ranade of the NIWEC club from Nashik raised his game to scrape past a fighting Swapnit Singh of Poona Club. The match ended 4-3 in favour of Ranade after almost four hours. Ranade won 48-60,58-42,15-83(54),77-44,10-59,83-39,54-50 in a thrilling encounter.
In the last frame,Swapnit led 49-41 and looked set to wrap up the match and title but an error gave Ranade a slim opening. The lad from Nashik pounced and took the Pink and Black to register a deserving victory.
Im thrilled to win my first ever title and that too in Pune and fighting it out against some really good players, said Ranade after his win.
Apart from crucial state ranking points,Ranade received Rs 15,000 for his effort and a
trophy while Singh had to be
content with Rs 10,000 and another Rs 3,000 for securing the highest break. Rana Kadolkar,12,was awarded the youngest participant prize.
