The Pune division ranked third with a 96.44 per cent pass rate as Maharashtra declared the results of its Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) examinations on Monday, where the overall pass percentage in the state is 95.81 per cent, 1.98 per cent more than last year.
The first and second positions were taken by the Kokan and Kolhapur divisions, with 99.01 per cent and 97.45 per cent pass rates, respectively.
As many as 15,49,326 students had registered for the Class 10 examinations conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Of them, 15,30,154 students appeared for the examination and 14,84,411 passed. In the Pune division, 2,64,525 students registered for the examinations, 2,62,141 took them and 2,53,600 passed.
As usual, girls outperformed boys at the state level and in the Pune division. As many as 8,27,450 boys had registered for the examination in the state. While 8,21,267 of them appeared for the examinations, 7,76,630 passed—a pass rate of 94.56 per cent. Of the 7,32,704 girls who had registered for the examinations, 7,28,051 appeared and 7,07,811 passed—a pass rate of 97.21 per cent.
Out of the 1,23,578 girls registered in the Pune division, 1,22,829 took the examinations and 1,20,107 of them cleared the hurdle, recording a pass rate of 97.78 per cent. While 1,41,006 boys had registered for the exams, 1,40,120 of them sat for the exams. Their pass rate is 95.27 per cent—1,33,493 of the boys cleared the hurdle.
As many as 5,31,822 candidates have passed with a first class. In the Pune division, 13,474 candidates have scored 90 per cent and above. Out of the 44 subjects, 18 have a pass rate of 100 per cent.
Board chairman Sharad Gosavi said, “This is the first time we have released the results in May. We also intend to do so for the coming years so the college application process goes smoothly for the students.”
“We plan to conduct two board exams in a year, starting next year. The circular for the same will be released in June or July,” he added.
Students can soon collect a hard copy of their results. A circular will be issued along with the forms for re-examination, re-evaluation and grade improvement examinations.
