Frozen Yoghurt,in delectable flavours and toppings,is the new dessert in town
In a little cup,the creamy yoghurt spirals up,flanked by delicious berries and fruits and even chocolate shavings. Dig into this frozen dessert and your palate will love the confusion of flavours. Yoghurt mixed with fruit purees and other natural ingredients – creamy yet light, sweet yet with a tinge of sour. It looks like ice-cream,but is in fact a healthier substitute. “I love it. You can eat a whole cup and yet feel quite light. I love the different flavours available,” says Gauri Sanyal,an IT professional.
Froguru and Cravingz are two popular Frozen Yoghurt outlets in the city. Situated not too far from each other – Froguru is in Lane 7,Koregaon Park, while Cravingz is near St Mira’s College,Koregaon Park – the two dessert stations claim a good footfall. “Especially in the evenings,” points out Manish Chandra, who opened Froguru in November 2011. It boasts of a total of 45 delicious flavours, which are available on a rotation basis – four everyday. “They are 100 per cent natural. We use fresh ingredients with no artificial powders or flavours,” Chandra says. From young collegians to even 60-year-olds,the desserts appeal to a wide spectrum of people. Some of the favourite flavours here are Brownie Batter,Honey lemon,Blueberry,Green Apple, and Banana Cinnamon to name a few. “The city needed something new – something beyond ice-creams,” says Chandra. And what better than a new, healthy category of desserts?
Everyday, these dessert hubs busy themselves in preparing the different flavours of the day. It takes half an hour to mix the ingredients and ready one flavour. “For ice-cream,you would mix milk and cream and then add in a puree, say of mango. Here, the only difference is that the milk and cream are substituted with yoghurt,” explains Chandra.
At Cravingz, one can flirt with 150 flavours with 250 different toppings. “Everyday, two new flavours are added in,so you have something new to try each time,” says Sahil Shah, partner,Cravingz. The first Cravingz outlet was opened in Ahmedabad. Pune was next – the dessert place is about four-five months old here. Delhi and Mumbai will follow this year. “People are increasingly becoming more health-conscious. Thus, the idea of frozen yoghurt as a dessert is picking up quite well at both the centres – Ahmedabad and Pune,” Shah says. Look out for interesting flavours like Pineapple Kiwi,Litchee Kiwi,Jelly Blast,Cookies and Cream,Dutch Chocolate and other delectable seasonal ones.
Like all things good and delicious, one expects a boom in this section. “It will happen. For now, more people need to be made aware about this dessert,” says Chandra.
