Mumbai-based fashion designer Pria Kataaria Puri loves to travel across different countries, seeking inspiration for her collections and admits to have a soft spot for the Middle East in particular. Recently, she visited Morocco and the country became an inspiration for her latest collection, titled Persian Funk. Inspiration comes to me in different forms when Im travelling to new places. The history of the place, the sensibilities of the people, the local fashion that prevails on the streets, everything about the place influences my designs in some way, reveals Puri as she explains how her collections reflect both the current scenario as well as the past. After designing ensembles for international fashion icons like Madonna and Paris Hilton,Puri is all set to venture into the Pune market. Inspired by the culture and history of Persia,Puri will unveil her Persian Funk collection at Hotel Oakwood Premier on July 16.
An array of tunics, maxis and dresses in vibrant colours is Puris way of brightening up the dull monsoon in the city. My colour story is very lively. Ive used a lot of yellow, turquoise and orange to cheer up the fairly drab monsoon, says Puri, who incorporates the kaftani style in her Persian Funk range in a modern fashion. Moreover, since it tends to get very humid and sticky during this season, she has used fabrics in which one does not feel hot and uncomfortable and at the same time does not lose out on the glamour. In fact,in this largely silk based collection,Puri has even treated the silk fabric to make it wrinkle-free. She has used silk-based georgettes, crepes, chiffons and jerseys with detailed metallic embroidery that in turn makes her collection wearable during the day and also doubles up as dressy evening wear with some accessorising.
No wonder then, her varied interests affect her work in a big way. For example, the colours that she uses are often based on these factors. ” There was a time I was heavily into black but I have used bright colours in this collection because they will bring joy to the wearer, she says.
Apart from this line,Puri is also working on her Summer Love collection which will be showcased at the Bangalore Fashion Week later this month. It is a young and trendy line where Ive used geometric floral patterns and colourful prints in silk lycra, she ends.
