Expert recommend a strict pre-party regime,if one plans to recklessly wine and dine during the New Year party
All the restriction goes to the wind, when it comes to New Year parties, where wining and dining falls in the category of etiquettes. While one can please their friends by having the largest piece of cake, their digestive system may find it difficult to take over dose of the ‘good food’.
The celebration at its zenith can prove dangerous with factors like over consumption of alcohol, too much of junk or high calorie food. It is not surprising if the celebration is followed by a visit to the doctor,as rise in the health regarding problems like obesity or diabetes are commonplace after binging spree.
While the problem is two-faced (social and medical),the solution is one,say the doctors. “It becomes difficult to control oneself from eating and drinking when the time and ambience demands. However,a good detoxification programme post-party and good control over ones’ urges may help in a long run. The worst part is one tends to replace water with soft drinks and wine or beer, thereby consuming less water and more liquor. If only one takes care to have lot of water,it will not only help in detoxify the system, but also reduces the ill effect of harsh drinks and spicy food,” says Dr Shashank Shah, who works as a Labroscopic and Obesity Surgeon.
Experts says that while the body shows immediate consequences after the party, impact of the same can be seen in the overall health in a long run. The clubs now-a-days offer unlimited food and drink, which tempts the youngsters to drink more and more,to which medical practitioners advice to avoid the extreme element included in the party.
Suggesting the remedy,Dr Shah says,”One can always follow a strict regime and consume green vegetables and water before the final party so that the effect can be lessened. People with family background of diabetes or obesity should be more careful.”
Dr Uday Phadke says,”Not only food, loud and thumping music is also hazardous. So one has to be careful while they celebrate. The only way is controlled enjoyment. One can let their hair down and dance as much as they want to,but can always eat something home-made before going to the party so that they need not binge or over-eat things.”
Agreeing to Dr Phadke,Dr Ravindra L Kulkarni, cardiologist, says,”Celebration is misinterpreted as drinking and over-eating. One needs to change the mindset and good health will follow. It’s a usual scene that people vomit after over-drinking,also there has been instances of molestation, still they call it celebration, which is ironical.”
