Note-worthy : Cleaning it Up

In a collaborative initiative by the Kirloskar Foundation,Rotary Club of Poona and Stavanger International Rotary Club of Norway,a water and sanitation improvement project has been introduced in Dr Dada Gujar High School,Mohmmadwadi.

In a collaborative initiative by the Kirloskar Foundation,Rotary Club of Poona and Stavanger International Rotary Club of Norway,a water and sanitation improvement project has been introduced in Dr Dada Gujar High School,Mohmmadwadi. The project was inaugurated by the past rotary district governor,Vijay Kulkarni. The students will be the direct beneficiaries of this initiative which has been designed to improve school health and hygiene. The organisations have been working with students and school authorities to develop a hygienic mindset and simultaneously,improve sanitation infrastructure in the needy schools. The first project under the initiative was introduced with the building of a sanitary block and separate toilet facilities for boys and girls.

Building Concerns

With Pune emerging as the hub of infrastructure and concrete bulidings,Child Relief and YOU (CRY) and Puranik Builders have begun a drive,Know Your House,against the working hazards of construction workers. Fifty children from Modern High School visited a construction site to come face-to-face with the difficult conditions of work. The efforts involved in constructing a house were shown to the students who interacted with the workers to understand their hardships.

Future scientists

To provide a platform to the budding scientists of the country,the Intel Future Scientist programme was launched recently. The programme aims at enabling the next generation of innovators to have an outstanding grounding in science,technology,engineering and mathematics. It has been designed to help Science teachers present their curricula from an inquiry-based perspective to help foster a spirit of research and innovation among their students. Intel will work with NGOs,social organisations and state governments to reach out to 50,000 girls,helping them develop scientific skills and expertise.

Road to recycling

On the occasion of the World Guide and Scouts Day,students of Kendriya Vidyaylaya,Yerwada,took a pledge to manage the household waste,collect used plastic from homes and put it to good use. They were assisted by The Academic Advisors,a non-profit organisation working with schools and the environment. Students from Stds VI-VIII went around cleaning their school grounds and collected 26 kgs of plastic which were sent for recycling.
