Need bays for broken down vehicles: cops

To keep the Mumbai-Pune expressway lanes clear,the highway police are seeking to create bays for broken down vehicles.

“The IRB (road infrastructure firm) has been asked to get higher capacity cranes that can tow a fully loaded truck from the e-way. We are also trying to create space for broken down vehicles away from the e-way so that all the three lanes are kept clear,” said Dilip Bhujbal,SP (highway) on Monday. As there are only some patches along the e-way for broken down vehicles,broken down vehicles stay on the lanes. There have been at least three recent accidents in which a vehicle had hit a broken down vehicle. Bhujbal also said there was a need for a massive traffic education for drivers.
