MKCL to hold workshop for olympiad qualifiers

The Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited has organised a four-day free workshop for 25 students from across Maharashtra, who have qualified the first level of the National Standard Examination in Junior Science.

The Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) has organised a four-day free workshop for 25 students from across Maharashtra, who have qualified the first level of the National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS). The exam is conducted all over India and top 300 students are selected for its second level — the Indian National Junior Science Olympiad (INJSO). This year,27 out of the selected 300 are from Maharashtra.

The selected students attend a camp, which includes several theoretical and experimental tests after which they are graded on the basis of an aggregated score. Five finalists represent India at the International Junior Science Olympiad. “These exams are different from the usual academic exams. They test basic scientific concepts, ensure a strong base and rely on a student’s practical approach to science,” said Uday Pachpor, general manager (Community Development and eEmpowerment Program),MKCL,who is in-charge of the workshop.

The four-day sessions would give students an idea about the type of questions included in the exam, how to prepare for them, the approach to solving problems and so on. Professors Yashodhan Kale,C K Desai and Milind Gambhir will guide the students during the workshop. “Students will be coming from Kolhapur,Latur,Nanded and other semi-urban places. Over the last three years of conducting the workshop,it has been our experience that collective activity enhances the learning process,” Pachpor said.

The workshop is being organised by MKCL’s Nurturing Excellence and Talent (NET) team and will be conducted from Tuesday to Friday. It is conducted as a part of the Science Olympiad Abhiyan,an MKCL movement that aims to enable students to win medals in international olympiads.

The workshop would be held from 9 am to 5 pm at MKCL’s Finishing School,Hotel Management and Catering Technology Building Campus in Shivajinagar.
