(File/ Representational)Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested a businessman who allegedly opened fire on the wall of a restaurant in Mhalunge area “just to show off,” in the early hours of Saturday. An FIR in this case has been registered at Hinjewadi police station on Sunday.
Police have identified the accused as Balasaheb Vyankatrao Darade (41), a resident of Susgaon in Mulshi. Police have booked him under sections 110, 125 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Indian Arms Act.
Police said the accused went to Hotel Image, a family restaurant alone on Friday night. He was seated in a family AC room on the first floor of the hotel. “He opened fire on the wall just to show off. We have arrested the accused. He claims to be into the business of real estate,” said senior police inspector Kanhaiyaa Thorat.
Police said the incident of firing caused panic at the place for some time. A probe revealed that the accused is in possession of a licence to carry a gun. Police sub inspector Tukaram Shelke said, “A court has remanded the accused to police custody for one day. We have seized his gun. Further probe is on.”
